INTERMEDIATE1 READING PROJECT, GROUP 3

Here is the Reading Project for one of the groups of Intermediate 1.
On Wednesday / Thursday, I will explain the project and also which students will do which project!

INTERMEDIATE 1 Reading Club Project

UNSOLVED MYSTERIES WEBQUEST

 INTRODUCTION

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson often drew different conclusions from the same clues, the same pieces of information. They then looked for additional evidence to prove that something was true.

You are a self-employed research writer. You have been asked by the Unsolved Mysteries Society to make a presentation for a documentary TV programme. It is very important to find accurate information, because the people at the Unsolved Mysteries Society are only interested in the facts!

 TASK

The Unsolved Mysteries Society wants a presentation which analyzes the information about one of these topics.

Your paper will explain the facts, the theories, which theory has the most support, and what aspects of the mystery are still unexplained. The producers will use this information as they prepare the documentary.

ATLANTIS, A LOST CIVILISATION?

THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE

In the Atlantic Ocean, bounded by the island of Bermuda; Miami, Florida; and San Juan, Puerto Rico, is an area where planes and ships have disappeared without warning. The U. S. military insists it's all coincidence. But what do YOU think?

 BIGFOOT

For more than 400 years people have reported finding footprints of a very large human in the western United States and throughout the world. Real or hoax? You decide.

CROP CIRCLES

These are circles in a field which appear mysteriously overnight. People have confessed to making some as jokes. But some evidence shows there may be another explanation!

AMELIA EARHART

Amelia Earhart was a daring pilot at a time when most women were not allowed to work outside the home. On July 2, 1937, she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while trying to fly around the world. Her plane was never found. What happened to her?

EASTER ISLAND

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean sits a collection of huge stone carvings. The Easter Island Moai have been the subject of speculation for centuries. How did the native people move and carve all that stone? And why?

PROCESS

The process of preparing the Presentation has several steps.

1.       In groups, choose an unsolved mystery.

2.       Find facts and theories about the mystery. Take notes from the Internet.

3.       Organize the material.

4.       Plan and write your presentation.

5.       Revise your presentation- check spelling and punctuation.

6.       Prepare a Powerpoint presentation of your work.

7.       Present the project to the other groups. Answer any questions.

CONCLUSION

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always able to solve the crime. No situation was a mystery to them for very long. But they are characters in fiction!

You, in contrast, have investigated a real mystery. You have found the most accurate information available and have presented your information to the class.

Congratulations! Holmes and Watson would be proud of you!
