Hi guys

Here is your online version of the INTERMEDIATE 2 READING PROJECT.

ON WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY I WILL GIVE YOU A PAPER COPY AND EXPLAIN EVERYTHING!!!!

INTERMEDIATE 2 Reading Club Project

Literary Great Britain Webquest

Introduction

You work for the British Tourist Authority and you want to attract more tourists to Great Britain this summer - due to the current economic crisis there has been a drop in visitors and the situation is expected to get worse, unless you can find new markets and offer tourist activities for specific groups of tourists. You are in the Educational Visits Section of the Authority and you know that many visitors to Britain come to experience the past and to find out about the literary legacy of the great British writers. You have had a great idea! Why not design “Literary Great Britain” routes for foreign visitors?

Task

The Educational Visits Section of the British Tourist Authority will design three Literary Great Britain routes for foreign visitors – lovers of British Crime fiction, fans of Children`s literature and lovers of the Classics.  First you need to research the area. For this, you will work in three different groups:

ROLES

·         Crime Writers

·         Literary Giants

·         Children´s Authors

Crime Writers

You are great fans of British detective and crime writing. You especially love Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), PD James and Ruth Rendell.

Prepare information for the Literary Great Britain route by collecting information about:

·         The authors´ lives

·         Where they lived

·         Where they wrote their stories

·         Where their stories are set

Literary Giants

You adore the giants of British literature: Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Robert Burns, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Dylan Thomas…

Prepare information for the Literary Great Britain route by collecting information about:

·         The authors´ lives

·         Where they lived

·         Where they wrote their stories

·         Where their stories are set

Children´s Authors

You love childrens´ writers, such as JM Barrie (Peter Pan), Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland), JK Rowling (Harry Potter),..

Prepare information for the Literary Great Britain route by collecting information about:

·         The authors´ lives

·         Where they lived

·         Where they wrote their stories

·         Where their stories are set

Process

1. Preliminary Stage – Planning: In your groups, brainstorm what you know about the authors (if anything!).  Think about the type of tourists who would be interested in this type of cultural holiday and brainstorm their needs. What type of activity will you include in your routes? Decide how you are going to divide up the work in each group.

2. Information Search: Find the information on the Internet, using the resource lists below.

3, Information Selection and Summary: Start to collate all your notes, summarize the information and write it down. Select the information which is most useful for your tourist routes. Design the routes.

4, Powerpoint Presentation: using Powerpoint, prepare a presentation of your Literary route for the Educational Visits Section Director and your colleagues (the teacher and your classmates!) to see and comment on.  Recommendations should be made at the end of the presentations as to any changes which could be made to the routes.
